KenKen Uganda National Championship(KUNC)

Promoting problem-solving, mathematical thinking, and academic confidence.
The KenKen Uganda National Championship, also known as KUNC, is one of the core programs of KenKen Uganda. It was created to help students develop logical reasoning, mathematical confidence, concentration, and creative problem-solving skills through KenKen puzzles. KenKen puzzles are more than games. They help students think critically, apply number sense, recognize patterns, and solve problems using strategy. Through KUNC, students are challenged to think beyond memorization and develop the kind of reasoning skills they need in school, work, and life.
Our Story KenKen Uganda began in 2019 with a focus on introducing KenKen puzzles to Ugandan students. Through this work, students gained the opportunity to participate in puzzle competitions and experience learning in a fun, competitive, and meaningful way. One of our proudest moments was leading a group of students to New York to compete in a National Championship. This experience opened doors for students, gave them international exposure, and showed the power of academic competitions in building confidence and ambition. Purpose of KUNC • Build students’ mathematical confidence. • Promote logical thinking and problem-solving. • Encourage healthy academic competition. • Give students local and international exposure. • Support teachers and schools in making mathematics engaging. • Identify and celebrate talented young problem-solvers. Who Can Participate? KUNC is open to students from different schools and age groups. Students may participate through their schools, community programs, or KenKen Uganda organized events. The championship welcomes learners with different levels of ability. Our goal is not only to reward the fastest students, but also to encourage growth, persistence, and confidence. Benefits for Students Students who participate in KUNC gain more than competition experience. They develop patience, focus, discipline, confidence, and resilience. They learn how to approach challenges, manage pressure, and keep trying even when a problem is difficult. Benefits for Schools Schools that participate in KUNC can use KenKen puzzles to strengthen numeracy, enrich mathematics instruction, and promote critical thinking. KUNC also gives schools an opportunity to celebrate student achievement beyond traditional examinations. Get Involved Schools, teachers, parents, and sponsors are invited to support the KenKen Uganda National Championship. Together, we can create more opportunities for young people to discover the joy of problem-solving.
